How to keep memories without Facebook Memories
Updated August 17, 2026
Direct answerHow do I keep old memories if I quit Facebook and don’t want Timehop?Download or screenshot the posts and photos you actually care about before you leave, then store those files yourself. Facebook Memories and Timehop only work while the old accounts and date-matching recap still exist. Memora does not connect Instagram or Facebook. You save a photo or a screenshot of the post that mattered; it can come back at random without a social feed.
| If you want… | Use | Cost of that choice |
|---|---|---|
| This date, old social posts | Stay on Facebook Memories or Timehop | You keep the account (or the connected apps) |
| Your camera roll, this date | Apple Memories / Google Photos | No voicemails; still a library recap |
| A few posts you chose, no feed | Save files + Memora | You do the saving. No bulk social import. |
Memories that live on Facebook live on Facebook
The “On This Day” product is a reason people stay. It is also a leash. If the memory only exists as a post in an account you want to delete, copy it out first. Meta’s own download tools are for a dump. You still have to pick the three photos that were the point.
Timehop is the same job in another app
Timehop recaps old social posts and photos from today’s date. If you liked Facebook Memories, that is the closest cousin. It is not a place to keep a voicemail, and it still wants the old connections. Leaving the social web and keeping Timehop is a half-step.
Save the artifact, drop the network
Screenshot or download the post. Save the photo at full size if you can. Put a copy in Files. Share the one you would miss into Memora if you want it to return without logging into anything. There is no Instagram import. That is on purpose.
- Do the export before you deactivate, not after.
- Do not expect a nostalgia app to include DMs or voice notes from other apps.
- A recap of 2016 is not the same as keeping one picture of one person.
FAQ
Can Memora connect to Facebook or Instagram?
No. There is no social import. Save a photo or screenshot if a post matters.
Is Memora a Timehop alternative if I only want “this day” photos?
Not really. Apple Memories is closer for camera-roll recaps. Memora is for moments you choose, including audio and text, on a random day.
What if I already deleted the account?
You can only keep what you still have: photos on the phone, screenshots, downloads you made. Start with those. Do not hunt a feed that is gone.
Keep the photo. Leave the feed.
